Just "got on it and goed"

Have bike, will travel...

on the smooth or rocky roads,

with or without hands.

When I was nearing bike riding age, but did not yet have a bike, I waited until my brothers were gone and without my mother knowing it, I took one of their bikes out of the garage and into the backyard where if I fell I knew I would not get hurt. I remember pushing the bike over to the cement steps leading from the house to the backyard so I would be able to get on the bike; then riding it all around the back yard.  When my mom saw me and asked how I was able to ride the bike, she recalls me simply saying, "I don't know...I just got on it and goed." I've loved bike riding ever since....many times without holding on to the handlebars.
